Geek’s Guide to Summer 2018: What to watch

Posted on

While millions of Marvel fans left “Avengers: Infinity War” in a state of shock, the good news is that the summer season has only begun for fans of superheroes and comics.

Here’s a look at what’s on our geek radar for summer 2018:

At the movies

“Deadpool 2” – The sequel to the surprise 2016 superhero comedy hit arrives in theaters May 18. Ryan Reynolds returns as the fast-talking mutant Deadpool, as he encounters fellow bounty hunter but no-nonsense Cable (Josh Brolin). We expect nonsense.

Solo” – Get ready to see “Star Wars” hero Han Solo make that famous Kessel Run on May 25. The well-received trailers are boosting buzz and optimism for the stand-alone feature from director Ron Howard that has been plagued by creative strife behind the scenes. While Alden Ehrenreich has a tall task ahead of him stepping into the boots of Harrison Ford, we are here for Donald Glover’s young Lando Calrissian.

“Incredibles 2” – The sequel to the 2004 Pixar hits theaters June 15, and it picks up right where it left off. Elastigirl (Holly Hunter) is off to make the world safe for supers again, leaving her husband Mr. Incredible (Craig T. Nelson) in charge of the couple’s three children at home. Can he overcome math homework, female adolescence and baby baths?

“Ant-Man and the Wasp” – Paul Rudd’s shrinking Marvel hero missed the big Avengers fight, but he’s got a new partner in Evangeline Lilly’s Wasp, as they take on a corporate spy, the Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen). If Avengers bummed you out, make plans for this light adventure when it’s released on July 6.

Teen Titans Go to the Movies” – The stars of the popular Cartoon Network series take their talents to the silver screen on July 27. The comedic irrelevance tone of the series will be in the movie, sure to annoy serious adult fans of the DC Comics franchise while leaving young children LOLing in the aisles.
